Dinner at Union (Plaza Senayan Courtyard)

After almost an hour of traffic, we arrived at Super Steak. To our dismay, it was closed... Due to my sudden dyslexia, I didn't spot that it was listed on the website that the restaurant is closed on Monday. *Angst* Needed a quick plan change since we were on a cab; we headed to Union at Plaza Senayan which was nearby. Union is highly raved in Tripadvisor and some online portals, hence I was looking forward to some good food. Tucked away in Departmental Store Sogo. 1st Floor. Nice interior and ambience. Melon & Mint Smoothie. Looks unassuming but taste like everything. Amazing. Crispy Pork Belly with Mustard Vinaigrette. Beef Burger. Tiramisu. A mbience Lovely. We noticed that there's more females than males in the restaurant. Perhaps the assortment of sweets and cocktails are more appealing to us, the sweeter gender *snicker*. The decor is tastefully done in classy oakwood and the lights are dimmed nicely. The place was bustling; great if yo

Hidden Drinking Place: Happy Cow

A friend invited us to this place; we would otherwise never have found it. I was initially seduced by the 'barbecue buffet' however was disappointed when the food ran out within an hour( all I got was some fries)! The place was pleasant in a way because it was so unexpected. When I stepped foot into the area, it felt as though I've been let into a little secret. There was a live band playing which added to the ambience. I don't mean to be critical but you can't expect fantastic singing skills though. The owner was really friendly; making his rounds, introducing himself and occasionally cracking jokes. There was a mini pool right in the middle where I think only kids would find appealing to take a dip or unless one is really drunk. I mean it is a nice touch to have a cute lit pool but I think it is really just for aesthetics purposes? Little bustling place. Children playing in the pool while their parents enjoy some beer. Feeling adventurous, we tri

Car Free Sunday in Jakarta Downtown

We were heading to church at IES (International English Service), when we realised that both routes that the GPS recommended were all blocked. We got down and decided to check it out. Totally not geared in any sporty outfits, we looked pretty out of place strolling in my yellow jumpsuit(wore this especially for church! Yellow = happy...haha) and Ferragamos.  How strange but cool at the same time! Empty roads in Jakarta. LOTS of cyclist as well as joggers. Some booths selling bikes. More people cycling. Decided to keep a picture of me standing right in the middle of the road. That's the only time I can do so, right? Cyclist, joggers and skaters all congregated. Can you spot the children skating? We thought it is a really great movement implemented by the Indonesian Government. You could really find groups of friends and family gathering for this; either just strolling, sitting along the road, cycling, etc.  We would definitely bring Alex for on

Dinner Buffet At The Ritz Carlton, Asia Restaurant (Mega Kuningan)

To 'celebrate' our successful week in Jakarta, I suggested to G that we should do a nice dinner at the Ritz just across the street. It was actually just an excuse to have a variety of food that I would like- satisfying both my Sashimi and Bakso (Indonesian meatballs) cravings at the same time. So we arrived at the Ritz, just 2 minutes drive or 5 minutes walk from our apartment and was greeted once again, by an entourage of friendly and eager staff (seems like every slightly higher end place in Jakarta practise this). I was pretty looking forward to the dinner as I'd thought that the Ritz will probably have one of the best buffets in town (I am a huge buffet lover). Fresh Seafood Section Mexican/Grill Section Desert Section Back to 90s: Seating Arrangement Ambience To be frank, I wasn't very impressed by the interior layout of the restaurant (you can judge for yourself from the above picture). I almost wanted to turn around and walk out of the r

Hot Yoga In Jakarta

So I haven't done yoga since I got pregnant...which makes that about 2 years since I've exercised at all? I went back to work right after 4 months of maternity leave (that's Singapore for you; why would anyone be surprised with the low birth rate), and maybe it's all excuses but I was either too exhausted to go work out after work or I just wanted to spend time with Alex. Anyway...since Jakarta is an embarkment of a new beginning (especially me not needing to work for the time being!), I decided that I should start a routine of good habits! So my very first destination, alone in Jakarta is... the yoga studio called Yoga@42   which I was extremely delighted to find.   They have two branches, one in Senayan and the other one in Kemang. I went to the Senayan branch which is very near to Senayan Plaza and FX mall. Plaza Arcadia Senayan (Don't confuse it with Plaza Senayan right across the street!) On the left once you climb the steps to the second floor.

BYE SINGAPORE! HELLO JAKARTA!

After a whole week of packing, giving away and selling off stuff and final two days of 'cramming'; we are left with 6 huge cartons, 5 check-in luggages and 6 hand carry. Alex trying to help...hehe.. Check-ins and handcarry that weighs more than 200kg in total. Saying bye to our Singapore home.. We were thankful to have chosen to travel with Singapore Airlines this time instead of succumbing to the cheap budget rates that Jetstar and AirAsia were offering. It definitely helped to ease some of the process, for example excess baggage weight, hand carry, flight delay issues that one usually face when traveling budget. Arrived at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and immediately greeted by a long queue in the immigration counters. We collected our luggage, meanwhile keeping fingers crossed that nothing went missing (heard many horror stories on how luggages are slashed or ripped apart at the checkpoints- officers searching and confiscating valuable
