BYE SINGAPORE! HELLO JAKARTA!

After a whole week of packing, giving away and selling off stuff and final two days of 'cramming'; we are left with 6 huge cartons, 5 check-in luggages and 6 hand carry.
Alex trying to help...hehe..

Check-ins and handcarry that weighs more than 200kg in total.

Saying bye to our Singapore home..

We were thankful to have chosen to travel with Singapore Airlines this time instead of succumbing to the cheap budget rates that Jetstar and AirAsia were offering. It definitely helped to ease some of the process, for example excess baggage weight, hand carry, flight delay issues that one usually face when traveling budget.

Arrived at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and immediately greeted by a long queue in the immigration counters. We collected our luggage, meanwhile keeping fingers crossed that nothing went missing (heard many horror stories on how luggages are slashed or ripped apart at the checkpoints- officers searching and confiscating valuables). Well, one of our luggages were ripped but nothing was missing, we headed straight to the Sliverbird Executive Taxi Queue and begin to travel towards our new home.

When we arrived at Oakwood Residence, we were immediately greeted by a troop of eager and courteous staff; which made us very glad that we chose this serviced apartment despite its steep pricing. G's company was not paying for the apartment, however G insisted that it's important to have a smooth transition during a relocation (since it's my first time), this will help the family to settle in better.

Nice elegant apartment lobby.

Our new place for the next couple months.

An alternate view of the apartment.

After all, we are pretty pleased with both the service and condition of the apartment. We had two other cheaper options initially- Iammorrisey (a manhattan soho concept serviced apartment) and Somerset Berlian (part of the Ascott Group).

One key reason why we chose Oakwood is the time and distance required for G to reach work. Although I've googled mapped both Morrisey and Somerset and Google shows only 15 minutes to work, in reality it's actually over an hour after factoring Jakarta's traffic.  A fellow colleague of G was staying at Oakwood and she vouched that the average traveling time from Oakwood to G's workplace at Pacific Place, Sudirman is about 15 minutes (minimum traffic) and 45 minutes (heavy traffic). And true enough, when G went to work the next day, it only took him 15 minutes in the morning and 40 minutes in the evening to get back home.

The second reason was that Oakwood was connected to a mini mall- with Starbucks (G is such a sucker for it), Ranch Market (a grocery store with expat selection of food), Loewy (what i heard as Jakarta's best restaurants) just right outside the apartment. Morrisey and Somerset didn't have any amenities nearby and therefore the option of having a grocery store next door is too appealing. Besides, Oakwood is also walking distance to Ritz Carlton-Mega Kuningan and Bellagio Mall.

And of course the final reason is that i like the interior layout of Oakwood way better than Somerset. I liked Morrisey's interior too, although I was not sure if it is homey enough for us to stay a couple of months.

Okay one last reason, i was blew away by the idea of a playroom for Alex.
See how happy he is!!

Ikkousha Japanese Ramen in Jakarta

We were craving for something soupy the other day; Indonesian food is mostly fried. We decided to check out the ramen store- Ikkousha. We went to the branch in Senayan City but they have couple of outletsIt is supposed to be a franchise from renowned ramen chain in Japan. I was feeling a bit skeptical of halal ramen-  you know great ramen broth is usually stewed from pork bones. The ambience is pretty nice and its attempt to make it look japanese is not bad. Miso Ramen Some spicy egg broth ramen, surprisingly tasty! Chicken Karage The outcome? I was surprised that it was pretty good! Of course it lacks the oomfph of the usual thick pork broth but they got the taste as well as the ramen right. I found the spicy egg broth really delicious and satiable to my soup craving; it's quite spicy though. The prices are also reasonable, costing about 80,000IDR (8USD) per bowl. Since we live only couple minutes away, we will definitely be coming back here quite regula...

Weekend brunch: Tana Merah Coffee Shop, Jakarta

My Indonesian girlfriend and I decided to check out this cafe- Tana Merah Coffee Shop for brunch last Saturday. Tana Merah Coffee Shop is located near Thamrin City amongst a row of shophouses. It is quite hard to find if you are going there for the first time. Just give the cafe a call (like we did) and they will give you or your driver precise directions to the cafe. This post will have lots of foodporn! Yay! For once, I made a conscious effort to take pictures of the food before digging into it. The reason I can't be a food blogger (despite I am such a foodie!) is that I can barely have the discipline to take pictures of all the delicious yummy dishes before I already poked one of my utensils in. Upon entering the cafe. Situated amonst a row of shophouses. I eyed the next table's order and the sandwiches looked great so I decided to order one for myself. My friend went for the french toast. The food presentation (for Jakarta standards) was pretty good and th...

Eat@Bali: Potato Head Beach Club at Seminyak

Our friends were telling us to visit Potato Head Garage when they learnt that we were visiting Bali; the food bloggers are also raving about this place in their blogs...so we decided to check it out. Arriving ten minutes prior to Potato Head's opening hour at 11am, we were refused by the security as well as the restaurant staff to enter the restaurant. I was trying to explain that we have a toddler who was very flushed from the heat and that we would just like to take a seat in the restaurant till they can take our orders at 11am...which is like 10 minutes away... No, we can't take a seat at the restaurant while we wait and the staff wanted us (G, a pregnant woman and a young toddler) to stand under the scorching hot sun for 10 minutes until the magical clock strikes 11am. The chairs, which were in the shade were just couple steps away, and NO..WE HAVE TO STAND UNDER THE SUN WHILE WE WAIT FOR THE MAGICAL OPENING HOUR.   I thought it was pretty ridiculous. I asked fo...
