Local Steak House: Super Steak

It was one of those days; when we didn't feel like dressing up for dinner however too lazy to cook at home so we decided to check Super Steak out. I have been wanting to try this highly raved (by local bloggers) Steak House for a while- mostly out of curiosity and also for the experience. You see, Super Steak is literally a Steak House... A house that serves steaks. The owner is selling grilled steaks right at his front porch of his home. The menu serves 3 types of beef and cuts- Angus(Imported) , Black Angus(Imported) and Local Beef; Sirloin, Ribeye and Tenderloin. Do not attempt to go there if you don't take beef as it is the only type of meat on the menu. G had the Black Angus Sirloin(200g) with butter garlic sauce. I decided to go for the Black Angus Ribeye(200g) with Cajun seasoning. Small yet bustling throughout the evening. I found the choices of seasonings or sauces most interesting as it is definitely not your mainstream type of sauces which you usu...

Korean Groceries at Mu Gung Hwa Jakarta

Korean food has became as famous as Japanese cuisine over the last decade. It is yummy yet easy enough to prepare. And here's a Korean supermarket in Jakarta for you to check out if you want to whip up some nice korean dishes at home or get some korean snacks. MGH (Mu Gung Hwa) appparently a supplier of korean groceries here in Jakarta, have their own stores around Jakarta. I went to the one at Jl. Senayan (it's not at Senayan though! Nearer to Senopati) which is the nearest to me. In the midst of couple of housing estates. You can find korean frozen food, as well as fresh ingredients that are used in Korean dishes. Stocked up on my korean ramen, pepper paste, etc. They also sell poultry and beef which looked relatively fresh, better than some Daily supermarkets. There's also a section where one could get fresh rice cakes and homemade kimchi/radish/etc. Be warned to check the prices before you head to the cashier; while most are reasonably priced,  some i...

Facial Treatment at Martha Tilaar Spa

Alas I found a good spa in Jakarta that offers a pleasant yet more 'clinical' facial treatment. It means the treatment consist of cleansing, steaming, extraction, exfoliating, mask/serum according to skin type and needs. And yes I am going to share this with you. I realised that the facial treatment offered in most spas here are more for relaxation rather than functional- the procedures usually only consist of cleansing, exfoliating and a mask. However what I really wanted is to get my face really purged off of all possible sebums, blackheads, whiteheads, etc etc..you get the picture.  So if you are anything like me, you would really appreciate the facial treatments offered here at Martha Tilaar where their own housebrand facial products are used. You will get your pores thoroughly cleared and your skin will thank you for it.  Waiting area of the spa. They serve a selection of Twining tea. The   inside of facial room. Curtains will be drawn once you are ...

Choosing A Place/Area to Stay in Jakarta

Are you relocating to Jakarta? So you are looking for a place to stay in Jakarta? And perhaps feeling really perplexed on which area would be the best for you. Don't worry, you are not alone. When we were moving to Jakarta, one of the biggest decisions G and I got to make - was to mutually agree on which area to stay. The popular places where expats live in Jakarta are CBD/Sudirman area, Menteng, Kuningan, Senayan and South Jakarta- Kemang/Cilandak/Pondok Indah area. G has always love to live next to work(right in the city) so that he could just walk to work and not be affected by traffic or transportation issues; while I hate living next to the offices/bustling areas and prefer a quiet laid-back area. We are polar opposites when it comes to this so it is always a battle when we choose a place together. So I thought I'd try to list down some pros and cons which may help you to better weigh your choices :) PROS AND CONS OF EACH AREA South Jakarta- Kemang Area/Cila...

Facial Treatment and Massage at SPA Intercontinental Hotel MidPlaza, Jakarta

There's no lack of spas in Jakarta, therefore the task is to differentiate a good spa from an average spa. Spas in Jakarta are also relatively cheap as compared to cities like Singapore and New York but one would still want the best value(both quality and experience) for the money you pay and also safe products ( especially facial products). If you are looking for a place where you can immerse in a pure blissful indulgence- without the frustration of staff not understanding your requests, or being overcharged a 'Bule' (means foreigner in Bahasa) price, then you may want to check out the SPA Intercontinental at InterContinental MidPlaza.  Thanks to Intercontinental team for reaching out to me, as I would otherwise not know the existence of such a good spa option.  Arrival at the Spa's entrance. Interesting rustic decor greets one at the waiting area. I was pleasantly surprised how welcoming the entrance of SPA Intercontinental is; maybe it's just m...

Lazy Beauty: DIY(Do-It-Yourself) Facial

For those who know me, I am a very lazy beauty; I love taking shortcuts for my beauty routines. For those who are similar, I am going to share how you could do a quick beauty fix/fast facial in the comforts of your own home. This suits most skin types as it is basically cleansing and hydrating. Just FYI, I have dry-sensitive skin. Unless you have very bad acne skin, you may want to consult your skin therapist before trying this at home. You will need (the least): 1. Facial scrub/exfoliator 2. Mud/clay mask 3. Hydrating mask Additional (Good to have): 1. Oxygen mask 2. A blackhead remover tool/ cream 3. Nice soothing background music ;) This is what I use at the moment(from left to right): 1.Facial scrub by Soap&Glory 2.Mud mask by Formula 10.0.6 3.Blackhead Melting Gel by Laneige 4. Bubble mask 5. Rose Mask by Fresh Step 1: Exfoliate your face with the facial scrub you have Step 2: After rinse off, use the blackhead remover tool to remove your blackheads if yo...

Buy and Eat Cheap Seafood in Jakarta: Everfresh Seafood

Alright I've already shared the other day on where you can get cheap and good imported meat ( read post here if you have not).  Now I'll complete the meat loop and share where you can get great and fresh seafood in Jakarta without damage to your wallets! You'd have to check out Everfresh Seafood. Sounds cheesy? I know right..but who cares when you can finally stop buying old stale fish from the supermarkets in Jakarta or stop being ripped off at 'Bule' stores. You will probably need a good driver and sharp eyes to spot the place. Very inconspicuously hidden. An array of fish and other seafood. You can pick your seafood, how you want it cooked and they'll cook it on the spot! When you enter the place, you will notice that there's mostly locals, which is a very good sign that the price will not send you a panic attack.  Besides the seafood on display(as shown above), there's also aquariums keeping the live fish and prawns which you can...
