Facial Treatment and Massage at SPA Intercontinental Hotel MidPlaza, Jakarta

There's no lack of spas in Jakarta, therefore the task is to differentiate a good spa from an average spa. Spas in Jakarta are also relatively cheap as compared to cities like Singapore and New York but one would still want the best value(both quality and experience) for the money you pay and also safe products ( especially facial products).

If you are looking for a place where you can immerse in a pure blissful indulgence- without the frustration of staff not understanding your requests, or being overcharged a 'Bule' (means foreigner in Bahasa) price, then you may want to check out the SPA Intercontinental at InterContinental MidPlaza.

Thanks to Intercontinental team for reaching out to me, as I would otherwise not know the existence of such a good spa option.
Arrival at the Spa's entrance.

Interesting rustic decor greets one at the waiting area.

I was pleasantly surprised how welcoming the entrance of SPA Intercontinental is; maybe it's just me but I always find hotel spas somewhat sterile and cold. I think they did a good job with the combination of warm lighting, wooden furnitures and warm tones throughout the spa. The staff of the spa, including the therapist/masseuse , also speaks reasonably good english and are friendly therefore it was such a breeze to explain my likes and dislikes. I am not sure about you but I usually like to customise my massage a little; for e.g: more focus on the shoulders and back, etc.
Clean, spacious spa room. Great for couples or girlfriend hangouts!

The spa starts with a lovely foot scrub.

I wanted a detox that day so I opted for the Absolute Refresh Massage and Facial, which use only natural ingredients. My spa began with a Oil Massage which helped to loosen a lot of my knots then continued by the Facial. I was very amused when the therapist took out a tray filled with assortments of fruits. She said, " These are prepared for your facial, Madam."

I initially thought that it's such a lovely added service by the spa to show me what my facial creams are made of until... the therapist really plastered my face with Oatmeal with Yogurt (a scrub) and then followed by natural Honey Mask. It smelled so sweet and fragrant that I was tempted to lick it.

I was most entertained when she squeezed fresh orange juice onto my face and last but not least the famous cucumber mask which we always see in Hollywood shows. The facial ended with a warm towel wipe across the face; no toner, moisturizer or anything else.  And amazingly, my skin felt so soft, hydrated and clean! I really wasn't expecting the effect to be so great- I mean one would think you need some European ampoule or mask to work wonders.

(Left) Not a glam shot of my face covered with cucumbers! Want to show you just how
'natural' the natural facial really is. (Right) Feeling really refreshed and happy after the treatment.

SPA Intercontinental team was also kind enough to give me a tour around the spa- besides the treatment rooms, they have saunas, jacuzzi, a locker room, a spa bar and also access to the hotel's gym and swimming pool. I thought it would be a good place to organise a small spa party for a bunch of girlfriends, I could easily see ourselves spend half a day there. And of course I was a happy bunny at the end of the session; I would come back to try the other treatments. They also have other facial treatments that use Decleor products which I am keen to try in the near future.  The pricing of the treatments are also very reasonable, beginning at about 500,000+ idr (bout 50 USD) and the 2hr treatment that I had? It was only about 700,000 idr (less than 70 USD).

Opting for a Natural Birth without Epidural

Thinking of an all natural birth? You are not the only mad one. " Ladies, I've decided." I announced abruptly a couple of weeks ago during lunch. All three of my buddies cum colleagues stopped in in their tracks; and put down the burgers that I sort of coerced them to eat because of my unusual craving. "I'm going for an Au Naturale birth." I said in a very determined tone. Mitch, who opted for elective caesarean when she had her son, looked at me wide-eyed and exclaimed, " You mean without epidural?" " Yes without epidural." I sounded somewhat proud with myself. Fung, as her usual no-nonsense self, asked bluntly, " So what's your treshold of pain?" Without hesitation, I replied, " Very bad." --- SO WHY OPT FOR A NATURAL BIRTH WITHOUT EPIDURAL? --- Pros of Natural Birth (With or Without Epidural) 1. Ability to move freely during labour 2. Reduced risk of blood loss or other complications af

Car Free Sunday in Jakarta Downtown

We were heading to church at IES (International English Service), when we realised that both routes that the GPS recommended were all blocked. We got down and decided to check it out. Totally not geared in any sporty outfits, we looked pretty out of place strolling in my yellow jumpsuit(wore this especially for church! Yellow = happy...haha) and Ferragamos.  How strange but cool at the same time! Empty roads in Jakarta. LOTS of cyclist as well as joggers. Some booths selling bikes. More people cycling. Decided to keep a picture of me standing right in the middle of the road. That's the only time I can do so, right? Cyclist, joggers and skaters all congregated. Can you spot the children skating? We thought it is a really great movement implemented by the Indonesian Government. You could really find groups of friends and family gathering for this; either just strolling, sitting along the road, cycling, etc.  We would definitely bring Alex for on

Fashion and Makeup Tricks For The Lazy Beauty

I was going through all my posts and realised that there isn't a single one on fashion. It's a little cliche since the blog is named Mummynista... Hence I decided that I should probably start blogging a little more on fashion and beauty and not just food. Otherwise, I might just need to change the blog name to Fatmamanista. *cackles* If you've read ' About Me ' or knew me personally back then, you would probably know how much I used to dress up. Everyday WAS  'I need to be fabulous' day. However since pregnancy and giving birth, my fashion laziness just escalated. Nevertheless, I need to reinforce the emphasis of still looking good. Even as wives, we still need to stay competitive...if you get what I mean. I go by these subconscious rules nowadays: 1. Buy clothes that does not require ironing. Have at least one body flattering jeans. 2. Scarfs are my best friends on lazy days. 3. To look like I've put in some effort dressing up- wear sandals i
