Lazy Beauty: DIY(Do-It-Yourself) Facial

For those who know me, I am a very lazy beauty; I love taking shortcuts for my beauty routines. For those who are similar, I am going to share how you could do a quick beauty fix/fast facial in the comforts of your own home.

This suits most skin types as it is basically cleansing and hydrating. Just FYI, I have dry-sensitive skin. Unless you have very bad acne skin, you may want to consult your skin therapist before trying this at home.

You will need (the least):
1. Facial scrub/exfoliator
2. Mud/clay mask
3. Hydrating mask

Additional (Good to have):
1. Oxygen mask
2. A blackhead remover tool/ cream
3. Nice soothing background music ;)

This is what I use at the moment(from left to right): 1.Facial scrub by Soap&Glory 2.Mud mask by Formula 10.0.6 3.Blackhead Melting Gel by Laneige 4. Bubble mask 5. Rose Mask by Fresh
Step 1: Exfoliate your face with the facial scrub you have

Step 2: After rinse off, use the blackhead remover tool to remove your blackheads if you know how*. Alternatively you can use a Blackhead Melting Gel, I found the one by Laneige pretty good but you have to use it twice a week for couple of weeks to see the effects.

*If you don't know how to use the blackhead removal tool but would like to try, you can read up here. I have been doing it myself for years and have no scars from it but the thing is that you have to make sure the tool is sterilized (you may do so with boiling water) and do not squeeze harder than necessary.

Step 3: After squeezing your blackhead out or using the Blackhead Melting Gel, some areas on your face might be a bit reddish. Rinse your face with water, towel it dry and then apply the mud mask right away (the mud mask usually has antiseptic/antibacterial properties that helps to relieves the redness of the skin). Leave it till it drys up.
After exfoliation, use a Blackhead Melting Gel or a blackhead removal tool to clear pores.
Thereafter rinse face and apply mud mask evenly across the skin (right image).

Step 4: After about 10minutes, the mud should be all dried up. Rinse it away, you may want to use a sponge or towel to clean off the mask completely.

Step 5: You will be able to feel some effects of the mask, your skin will feel clean and supple. Do not give up,  finish it with a hydrating mask of your choice.

Another not very glam picture, to show you how the oxygen mask actually bubbles up on the skin.
It will eventually subside once the oxygen has entered the pores.

I usually alternate between the oxygen mask or rose mask depending how dehydrated my skin is. I find the oxygen mask is a powerful boost to my skin when it is at its driest.

And TA DAH! After the final wash of the hydration mask, your skin should feel as soft and clean as a baby. Do this twice a month and your skin will thank you for it.

Time Taken: 40mins (with extraction), 25mins (without extraction).  That's less than the amount of time you need to get to the mall! :)

Where I bought the products I'm currently using:
1.Facial scrub by Soap&Glory- Sephora Singapore or any toiletry stores in UK
2. Mud mask by Formula 10.0.6- Watsons Singapore
3.Blackhead Melting Gel by Laneige- any Laneige counter/DFS
4. Bubble mask - I got mine in Shanghai, you can find it in SaSa Hongkong/Singapore, and I think most Japanese/Korean skincare labels will have them
5. Rose Mask by Fresh - Sephora Singapore/ Sephora online

Ikkousha Japanese Ramen in Jakarta

We were craving for something soupy the other day; Indonesian food is mostly fried. We decided to check out the ramen store- Ikkousha. We went to the branch in Senayan City but they have couple of outletsIt is supposed to be a franchise from renowned ramen chain in Japan. I was feeling a bit skeptical of halal ramen-  you know great ramen broth is usually stewed from pork bones. The ambience is pretty nice and its attempt to make it look japanese is not bad. Miso Ramen Some spicy egg broth ramen, surprisingly tasty! Chicken Karage The outcome? I was surprised that it was pretty good! Of course it lacks the oomfph of the usual thick pork broth but they got the taste as well as the ramen right. I found the spicy egg broth really delicious and satiable to my soup craving; it's quite spicy though. The prices are also reasonable, costing about 80,000IDR (8USD) per bowl. Since we live only couple minutes away, we will definitely be coming back here quite regula...

Facial Treatment at Miracle Aesthetic Clinic (Kemang, Jakarta)

I am sure those who frequent Kemang will not fail to see the big white building with a huge signage- Miracle Aesthetic Clinic. For those who follow my blog, you will know that I am always on a lookout for a nice spa or beauty/facial places. Just as I was about to check out the clinic, Miracle Aesthetic Clinic dropped me a note to try out their treatments; great timing isn't it? :) Many of us will probably be very skeptical about trying aesthetic treatments in Jakarta or anywhere in Indonesia, after all Jakarta is not famous like Bangkok for beauty treatments. So on the Saturday before I left Jakarta for our holiday, I dragged Hubby G with me to check out Miracle Aesthetic Clinic. They offered a consultation before trying any treatments including facial. I met one of the aesthetic doctors and she took me through the list of available treatments the clinic offers- Botox, Fillers, IPL, Facial, etc. As usual, the cynical me checked with the doctor if the products are legitimate and...

Part 3: Deciding to give birth in Jakarta or Singapore

A tough dilemma isn't it? Giving birth in Jakarta or Singapore has its pros and cons. We know of many expats and affluent Indonesians moms would fly down to Singapore to have their delivery there. After all Singapore's healthcare is unarguably one of the best of the region and the entire country runs efficiently. The price difference between delivering in Singapore's hospitals and the prestigious hospitals here in Jakarta is not that huge either; and of course Singapore's hospitals are definitely way better maintained so it does seem like a very attractive idea to deliver in Singapore. There's couple of considerations when hubby G and I were debating to give birth in Jakarta or Singapore. 1. Medical Care. How comfortable and confident we feel about the local hospital facilities? 2. Logistics. If I were to give birth in Singapore, it means I have to be there a month before I am due and only be able to fly back a month after I deliver. Plus minus..I ...
